Growing
up in a small papermill town in southern Michigan, Eric was first
introduced to the electric bass in high school as a member of
the school’s vocal jazz band. A few years later, he was
invited to participate in a scholarship program where he was
introduced to music theory and performance training through a
series of vocal and instrumental Jazz clinics at Western Michigan
University.
Eric’s
friends, who listened to everything from Chicago to James Taylor,
introduced him to such great players
as Tom “T-Bone” Wolk,
Leland Sklar and Will Lee. Their melodic flair and use of creative
bass lines are something that have truly influenced Eric’s
own playing style today.
Since then,
Eric has been involved with several ‘original’ recording
and performing projects ranging from an acoustic duo to an
alternative rock band. A recent involvement with SOLID GROUND,
a critically
acclaimed and highly respected country band from the midwest,
has earned him the privilege to be called a member of one of
the best ‘unsigned’ Country
bands in the United States after winning the Jim Beam Country
Music Talent Search in Nashville,Tennesee in the fall of 1997!
They have
performed with many of Country Music’s top entertainers
including Tracy Lawrence, Mark Wills, Little Texas, Ricochet,
Jeff Carson,
Burnin’ Daylight, Victoria Shaw and Kenny Chesney.
Between
commercial studio projects and raising a family, Eric has
had several career building opportunities writing and performing
with artists from the West Michigan area, including The legendary
blues guitarist Jimmie
Stagger. On fronting his own project,
ROGUE
RIVER GRASS, he says, "...this has been a real blessing
for me-- A big fan of acoustic bluegrass, I hope to continue
my performing
career giving back what I've learned from the great performers
I've grown to love and respect!" |
